End of Summer Indoor Upkeep

End of Summer Indoor Upkeep

Summer is quickly coming to an end and before we know it the holiday months will be here. Now is a great time to start the fall season off right in your home. Taking care of end of summer upkeep now will help you save time and money in the winter months ahead. Read on to check out what indoor upkeep items made our list.

Upkeep #1: Check the air flow in your home. Check your vents, baseboard heaters, room fans, dryer vents and HVAC units for built up dust. Clean these areas thoroughly to ensure you won’t have any air blockages once you need to turn on the heat.

Upkeep #2: Turn on the heat. Now is a great time to make sure your heating system is working properly. It’s an even better time to get your system professionally maintenanced. Change the filters in your furnace and make sure everything is in working order before you really need the heat!

Upkeep #3: Check your walls and floors. Fall is a great time to patch up areas that have wear tear. Fall weather makes for good painting weather as it is typically cooler and dryer than the summer months. It’s a great time to get your carpets cleaned as well before we are stuck inside for the winter months.

Upkeep #4: Clean the kitchen sink and garbage disposal. During the warm and humid winter month’s bacteria population likely increased in your sink and disposal. Use a disposal cleaner to disinfect and remove bacteria from the disposal. Now is a good time to remove food stains and rust from the sink as well. If you are not sure how to safely clean your disposal, consider hiring a plumber to do the work for you.

Upkeep #5: Scrub down the bathrooms. Once again over the humid months of summer mildew likely built up in the bathroom. Now is a great time to scrub down all of the surfaces in the bathroom and remove soap scum and mildew.

These are just a few ideas to get your mind in the maintenance mode! Take the time now to do some upkeep and thank yourself later!
